The folk style program of events is defined by the Folkstyle Director and approved by the MWA members.
The K-4 State Tournament is a great experience for young athletes to get a taste for competing and placing in a state level event. Wrestling typically occurs on 1/2 mats and the kids wrestle in either 4-5 man RR or in 8 man brackets.
The 5-8 post season consists of 3 sets of tournaments
1) Sectional Tournaments. In 2019-20 season there will be 2 sections where wrestlers will wrestle in 5-32 man brackets anything less than 5 will be a round robin bracket. Place winners of this event qualify for the state tournament.
2) Big East is a novice tournament. Athletes can register and compete in this tournament if they wish. The athletes who do not place at sections are automatically registered for this event. You DO NOT need to register again. The sectional athletes and Big east registration only athletes all wrestle together in fixed weight Round Robin or Brackets depending on the size.
3) The State tournament takes the top 8 athletes from each section. The athletes wrestle in a 16 man bracket to determine the State Champion at each weight.
The K-12 New England Girls Championship is a stand alone event which allows female athletes to compete against each other. It typically occurs on the same day as the Big East in the same venue. Female athletes can compete in both tournaments.
In future seasons be on the look out for duals competitions to begin!
